Something We All Need
I have had several conversations and experiences over the last number of weeks and each of these has had one common theme.
Rest
Susanne and I spoke with a non-profit yesterday who told us their founders were finally able to get a week away to rest.
I connected with a colleague who told me her goal each night was to get eight hours of sleep. She decided this after realizing the pace she was keeping was not sustainable.
Another client told me he needs to cut back as he is not getting his rest and it is impacting his relationships, mental health, and work performance.
It seems that rest is a recurring theme for me recently and a good reminder that we all need rest in order to be at the top of our game in all areas of life.
I also hear many talking about rest being overrated.
The idea is that if you rest your competition will pass you by. If you take time to rest you will lose your momentum. If you rest, you will grow lazy.
If you subscribe to those who promote the hustle culture, then you will agree that rest is for suckers.
However, I encourage you to re-think that approach and come to the understanding that rest is necessary and foundational to our physical, emotional, and mental well-being.
If you are finding that you are having trouble with your focus, if your productivity is not what it should be, or if you feel like you're dragging a bit, take some time and rest.
Step away from your device, avoid the noise that can so easily distract us and take the time to rest.
What this looks like will look different for all of us, but the positive impacts will be noticeable and you will be glad you did it.
Do it this weekend and let me know how it went and what benefits you noticed.
On the journey with you,
Carlos
